This Week at SisterWild
A podcast episode about the consequences of being "physically in; mentally out" and an upcoming writing workshop
Hey sisters!
This week we’re really happy to announce the launch of a new segment for the podcast, “Dear Sam and Jess....” In this recurring segment, Jessica and her friend and colleague, therapist Sam Corrington, sit down to chat about reader letters.
As we discuss in the episode, Sam was actually Jessica’s professor for the last course she took for her undergraduate degree (quite a long time ago now!) Jessica had been keeping her religious background and family situation a secret but upon reaching the final assignment in the final course, decided to lay it all out there in one last, sprawling paper (that, honestly, disregarded the syllabus and probably didn’t even meet the criteria!) Sam’s compassionate and thoughtful feedback about Jessica’s reflections on her life experiences had a big impact that Jessica is still grateful for and that helped spark her interest in life-writing.
Here, we talk about a letter from Vanessa, a born and raised Jehovah’s Witness who has been living “physically in; mentally out” for some time now. Vanessa is deeply worried about the consequences her faith transition might have on her relationship, especially for her elderly parents, whom she cares about very deeply. Vanessa walks a careful line between being true to the happiness she has found in her deconstruction, and the responsibility she feels towards caring for her parents.
Do you have something you’d like to contribute to the “Dear Sam and Jess…” segment?
If you’d like to share a problem you’re facing, ask a question, reflect on your faith transition, or just share what’s been going on for you, we’d love to hear from you. Sam and I will share your story on the podcast and have a chat about it. Don’t worry - you can stay completely anonymous.
